The new Clean Air Strategy has caused some confusion with what will be acceptable as of February 2021. Below are a few questions we get asked.

New wood burning rulesAre they banning wood burning stoves?
Absolutely Not! The Clean Air Strategy recognises that wood stoves and fireplaces are the heart of many homes across the country and only aim to phase out the installation of poor performing stoves.

Can you still burn wood?
Yes! The new Clean Air Strategy aims to only phase out the burning of WET wood by February 2021. They are also phasing out the burning of house coal. smokeless fuels will continue to be available.

Can I use my current logs next winter?
Yes! You can continue burning your existing stocks of wet wood. Anything purchased after February 2021 will need to be compliant. Our barn dried logs are fully seasoned (<20% moisture) and are already compliant with next year’s rules, so if we already supply you then there is nothing to worry about.

Do I have to buy kiln dried wood?
No! You don’t have to spend extra on kiln dried wood. You can continue using your local suppliers as long as the wood is <20% moisture. This includes us ???? We have been working towards these new regulations for the last 18 months so our customers will see no disruption in the supply of our Home produced Firewood which is already compliant with the new burning rules. #MadeByMead.

Kiln Dried

Don’t waste your money on expensive kiln dried wood. Often enough these logs burn too quickly because they have been artificially dried to an unnecessary low moisture content. Wood is a natural breathable product so unless you store such logs in a fully dry and well ventilated area the moisture content can begin to increase. Unless advertised as British, many kiln dried products are imported from eastern European countries, further adding to the carbon footprint and environmental impact of kiln dried Firewood.

Barn Dried

Here at P.E Mead & Sons we can achieve the optimum moisture content without wasting energy on artificial drying. We harness the gentle breeze that mother nature provides in traditional drying techniques which have been around for thousands of years. Why change something that works?

We’ve been supplying our local area with high quality firewood for 40 years, so we know exactly how to create the perfect firewood you need to stay warm. We support our local area by only using sustainable and well managed woodland reserves.

By processing all our timber on-farm we ensure that only dry, fully seasoned hardwood logs are available to you. Their low moisture content means our logs are ready to burn as you please.
