FROM OUR FIELDS TO YOUR FORK

We are a traditional mixed farm with arable crops, cattle and sheep. We believe that mixed farms help support sustainable farming practises which are beneficial to both the farmer and the surrounding environment, encouraging local wildlife to thrive. We have a number of wildlife schemes on our farm.

WE GROW

We grow both winter and spring crops. Some of these include: Milling Wheat, Feed Wheat, Oilseed Rape, Field Beans, Spring Barley and Maize. These crops form our crop rotation which allows us to keep the soil healthy and productive.

Agriculture has change hugely over the time our family has been farming here, with each generation experiencing new technologies and farming methods. Not forgetting the day to day issues that seem to occur on all farms.

WE FEED

Apart from feeding our customers, we also feed the appetite of our farm animals. Currently we have 200 Aberdeen Angus cattle and a 100 head flock of Scottish mule ewes. Both being reared to the highest standards of quality and welfare.

All our animals are reared outside on lush grassland. They always look at home. On quiet days it’s nice just to sit and watch their behaviour, grazing away in the summer sun. There’s always a few trouble makers in the herd. repairing fences and counting heads is a daily task.

We’re Meads

As of 2022, we have 8 generations of Meads that have called this area Home. The Original being William Mead (1841) and youngest being Rory Mead (2022). The world has changed over this period and farming has had to adapt to meet the needs of the time. Read our News articles for an insight into our family history and learn how we farm today.
